Loss-of-Earning Capacity
Loss-of-earning capacity is the pre- and post-event analysis
of an individual's potential to work and earn money in a given
competitive employment market. Consideration is given to:
- Age
- Gender
- Ethnicity
- Education
- Work experience
- Physical, mental and emotional conditions
- Training opportunities (enhanced capacities)
- Rehabilitation plan
- Labor market supply and demand
- Labor force participation/worklife expectancy
Assessment data applied to this process may include any of
a combination of the following:
- Pre-existing and/or comorbid medical conditions
- Medical and/or independent medical evaluations
- Functional capacity evaluation
- Vocational evaluation
- Transferable skills analysis
- Psychological/mental health evaluation
- Neuropsychological/cognitive evaluation
- Documented and/or surveyed geographic and/or expanded
labor market and labor force areas
- Documented prevailing area wages for occupations in question
- Documented "diligent" job search
Loss-of-earning capacity conclusions address:
- Sequential, specific rehabilitation plan of action toward
a defined vocational goal allowing maximized vocational
independence
- Relevant r\pre- and post-event labor market scenarios
- Pre- and post-event Job identification, availability,
qualification and placement
- Projected pre- and post-event earnings
- Worklife expectancy (cumulative expected duration for
active labor force participation)
NOTE: Reduction of loss-of-earning capacities to present value
will require analysis by a qualified professional.
